Government Care-Givers SUCK!

Honestly! I tell you - you don't want to leave your near and dear with them bitches...

My aunt who suddenly took sick was rushed to the Homagama Hospital and then transferred to the Colombo General Hospital. The staff at the Homagama Hospital didn't allow anyone to go with her, and asked us to come back the General Hospital at 6am; that's during visiting hours. So we went, and after much difficulty found the ward she was in, only to discover that the saline has finished hours before and that since she was unconscious, the needle stuck in her hand had moved around so much, that there was blood down the front of her blouse. So I went to inquire from the nurse as to what condition my aunt was in and whether she could maybe please put in a new saline bottle or help clean up my aunt. But man! She just totally went off at me, told me that it wasn't really my problem, and they she couldn't really be changing the saline over and over again; that she had done her job as far as she was concerned; that there was nothing she was going to do beyond that; if the patient was having difficulty breathing - too bad, etc. And while being extremely pissed off, I was quite alarmed. I'd never met a nurse like that. She didn't give two shits about the patients, she sounded like she hated what she was doing, she completely managed to successfully scream at my mother and everyone there for simply asking what condition my aunt was in.

If the General Hospital didn't have all the equipment and facilities, we would've transferred my aunt a long time ago...but as this point, we have no choice. They still don't know what is wrong with my aunt, and while they perform tests, she has to wait.

What are nurses for? Aren't they supposed to be helping and caring for the sick? All the nurses and even some of the doctors just had such airs it was sickening. It certainly doesn't feel right, when you have to go and beg the doctor on call to come look at the patient...

What gives?

Female nurses in Sri Lankan hospitals, most of them are really bitches. But I find male nurses are relatively kind and soft spoken.

One time when my brother got sick, we had to attend him to a government hospital. When his temperature goes up really high, female nurses told him to walk all the way outside ward and take a wash himself. But looking at my brother’s condition a male nurse volunteer to give him a rug bath and even next day give him some books to read. Just an small example.

One time a man curse at the nurse and ask for water. The nurse scold at him and left. In few second the man died. He was actually asking for his last drop of water.

I guess people are blame for this too some what because people really do not respect the establishment. I have seen some people, really make mess out of the hospital unnecessarily – my brother said there was a guy who used to urinate outside the bed even he is perfectly capable to walk to the bathroom. I think at the end of the day nurses may not find their job is interesting.

Sri Lanka is a primitive society. We can not expect any better.

You are correct. Government Care-givers sucks. It sucks really badly.

I agree. They are really really bad. But they are underpaid and dont really have to answer to anyone.
Its quite frustrating though. You feel like you want to put them in the hospital yourself.. Maybe in the ICU!

i'm really sorry to hear that this happened to u and ur aunt...i've heard that the best treatment can be received at General...

and at the same time i've also heard that some of the nurses and young doctors can be real bitches... if they can't do their duty properly, why do it at all... sure is annoying...but that's how it is.

i've also heard that at Lad Ridgeway, some of the bitchy nurses give pregnant ladies a hard time...obviously b'coz of all the pain women just abt to give birth tend to scream and the nurses actually scold them it seems...it's not all the nurses but some of them....
sure is a bad situation..

hope your aunt's better now..anyway, my mum needed surgery and she decided to have it at the castle hospital because it's supposed to be the best for this particular surgery..i went in there expecting to find hell on earth but, believe me when i say i was completely surprised..the whole hospital was extremely clean and well kept..a few nurses were a bit, well, rough but none of them were downright nasty..not while i was around anyway, and i spent quite a lot of time there and did a fair amount of obseving..but the security woman was a bitcha and a half and gave us a hard time when we tried to take breakfast for my mum, saying that we had missed the visiting hour..after she received a piece of my mind and after i spoke to her boss i went past her (with the smuggest look i could manage..:)..maybe castle hospital is the exception to the rule, but the care givers there weren't too bad
